Dear Delia chronicles the Civil War letters of Captain Henry F. Young to his wife Delia, and her father, Jared Warner. Young’s regiment, the Seventh Wisconsin Infantry, was part of the famed Iron Brigade during the war. The letters cover innumerable themes related to Young’s military service including his view on slavery, African American soldiers, military leadership, and the hardships endured by the common soldier during the war.

Larson will demonstrate how to use Young's letters (as a primary resource) in the classroom through an analysis of several passages of the book.
